About Me

Hi Thrifteeez!

My name is Shonte but everyone calls me Teeezy.

I’ve lived in Atlanta, GA and NYC but I am a Rochester native.

My mom introduced me to thrifting at a young age…to be quite honest we were poor. A lot of times we would walk to the thrift stores and when we took the bus that was a treat. Me and my sister would run around the thrift stores. I remember I would always see a pair of ice skates and would want them. My sister and I didn’t know what a thrift store was, those clothes were new to us and that’s all that mattered.

Fast forward, I would thrift throughout the years here and there but nothing major. Lunch dates and thrifting with my friends was the norm.

In 2016, I moved back to Rochester, NY. When I moved back I found out that my mom was diagnosed with Colon Cancer. I was devastated, she had already beat cancer once and was in remission since 1992…now this. On the days she felt well enough she always wanted to get out the house. On Saturday mornings we would get dressed and head to the thrift store with a box of tissue on deck. I don’t know about y’all but as soon as me and my mom would hit the inside of the store we would instantly get the sniffles.

My mom and I would thrift shop every chance we got, as a result I stopped retail shopping. By 2017 pretty much all of my work clothes were thrifted. I would get so many compliments on my thrifted items and in my head I’m thinking “If you only knew how much I paid for this.”

My mom passed away on Christmas Day in 2017. I stopped thrifting for a while after that because I spent so much time with her before she passed and it was our thing to thrift on Saturdays.

My mom would always give me thrift money when we would go out but I would never spend it. I saved it because I knew there would be a time when I wouldn’t be able to thrift with her. When I did decide to thrift again, I would use the thrift money she gave me so I could feel connected to her. Now when I thrift I go everyday except Saturdays because that day is reserved for me and my mom.

Thrifting makes me happy. I love being able to mix and match new with old and saving some coins while looking cute.

I hope to build a beautiful thrift relationship with you! If you have any questions please feel feel to contact me.
